*The Art Of Commitment... April 26th, A.D 2008,
How do you know you love something?
Is your answer, "Oh! It's about the feelings? "
The truth is... it isn't just about the feelings. Then what? It's about being able to commit yourself to it even though you are so tired that you don't feel like getting up. If you love your job, you would get up, even at the expense of your tiredness. If you love your pet dog, you would play with it when you get home even after a really exhausting day.
How do you know you love someone? Perhaps you should ask these questions. Are you prepared to talk to your partner when both of you are having a really bad day? Are you prepared to have a long talk with your partner when you just had a long day handling so many projects as well as having heated arguments with your colleagues and clients? Are you going to help your partner first when the both of you are drowning, gasping and struggling for air? Or will you think about saving yourself first?
It' s not just about feeling, "Oh. I kinda like him or her so let's get into a relationship." It's not about being reckless by considering your own feelings and desires first. It's about both parties. You don't think about getting together first and then let the future of your relationship dangle about by saying, " Whatever. I'll just think about it later. The feelings are right now. " . And you go ahead to satisfy your selfish desires of wanting to be in a relationship because you want to. Then, the day comes when you start to feel that you are starting to hate the strings which you are attached to. The Strings Of Commitment which you did not consider first before going into a relationship. And you get into a whole lot of messy lies just so that you could end the relationship, not knowing what a severe blow it would be to the opposite party. In other words, You know you love someone only if you are prepared for the long periods of time which you are going spend or stay with him or her.
Love is an art. It is an art of commitment. It is not just its superficiality which you have to see. Deep within it, lies its darkest secrets of trapping you with it tests. If you cannot survive its tests, then your feelings are not strong enough to be called 'love'.
To 'like', is to feel but to love, is to commit...
